A Woodland House
Replacement Dwelling, Fulking
Located within the South Downs National Park, the clients bought a large plot containing an old two storey house with a dream to create a contemporary building which would become their family home. The house is set in woodland amongst an array of many different species of tree, including Oak, Ash, Sycamore, Beech and Pine, as well as a variety of smaller fruit trees.
Due to the inefficient thermal performance, low levels of daylight and small room sizes, the clients chose to replace the existing dwelling with a larger, modern, comfortable and efficient family home. The setting has inspired the design and the feeling of breathing in the natural surrounding beauty with a magical framing of the woodland through the use of glazing. The house will be as resourceful and cost efficient as possible in terms of energy consumption and chosen materials that are intended to keep future maintenance as low as possible.
Features include:
- Highly insulated reinforced concrete superstructure with a palette of rough cut stone cladding, high-density stratified timber panels and render
- Wood pellet boiler
- Under floor heating
- Additional tree planting
- Large areas of south facing glass for passive solar gain
The project is now on site and is making good progress. See our news section.
