Green Roof in Full Bloom

Green roofs not only look beautiful but take what can sometimes be a neglected space and give it a new purpose. A green roof reduces energy costs due to its natural insulating properties. They are being used increasingly more on urban development’s providing a thriving eco system for all kinds of wildlife and a peaceful spot for residents. Its practical too, the green roof protects the roof membrane from weather and UV giving your roof sometimes up to double the life span.

By absorbing solar heat the green roof is working hard to be your eco-friendly, insulating and aesthetically beautiful new consideration to any home improvements or extension.

The Eco Technology Show 11- 12th June 2015

For the fourth year in a row, ARCH-angels Architects exhibited at The Eco Technology Show. This year saw an exciting extension to the exhibiting role, as Nicola Thomas did a talk at the Eco Technology Show for the first time, building on her already extensive experience of giving talks on low energy building. Nicola discussed the life cycle of cost effective low energy design by presenting a case study on how to achieve a Code 5 home which is affordable by connecting the home and the environment over a life time with creative and rigorous flair.

Thank you to all that visited the team at The Eco Technology Show.

Nicola Thomas is now an certified Passivhaus Designer

Nicola Thomas, Co-Owner of ARCH-angels Architects and Partner of ZSTa, attended the Passivhaus training course through the AECB in November 2014 and took the very challenging examination in December. She received notification today that she has successfully passed and Nicola Thomas is now a certified Passivhaus Designer.

Passivhaus buildings provide a high level of comfort for the occupants while using very little energy for heating and cooling; by maximising the use of super insulation, air tight construction and paying meticulous attention to the removal of thermal bridges.  Combining this with passive solar gain, mechanical ventilation and heat recovery systems; Passivhaus design can create healthy and comfortable buildings.

By reaching this standard of accreditation ARCH-angels Architects and ZSTa, through Nicola’s expertise, are able to integrate these rigorous standards to the design and construction process of buildings where the client wishes to push the boundaries to reduce the ecological footprint, lower CO2 emissions and reduce their ongoing energy consumption. Generally used in new building design, the practice would like to apply these principles to refurbishments where appropriate.

Congratulations and well done from all the team!
