bringing light into the heart of the home

Our client’s dream was to have an open plan kitchen/dining space with a seamless connection to the garden via large sliding doors. In a Victorian terrace property such as this one, a simple way to achieve this is by creating a side return extension. By capturing the often leftover exterior space between the side wall and the shared boundary with the neighbour, this relatively small extension approach can have a great impact on the look and feel of your property.

An important consideration in these extension projects is the rear reception room, as it can become a dark corridor between spaces. By changing the existing window into this room into a fully glazed door and retaining the access into the newly enlarged space from the hallway, we created a playroom with plenty of natural light from the new extension's skylights.

The result is a calm bright space that the clients love and suits their lifestyle. They now enjoy their high quality, flexible and robust space with a strong year-round connection to the garden. A functional and surprisingly spacious downstairs WC is tucked under the stairs.
