We established archangels ARCHITECTS in 2009 in Brighton and have since expanded to Bristol and the Isle of Wight. We are a friendly, approachable and award-winning architectural practice with a mission to create cost-effective, creative, low-energy buildings that improve everyday living. As a local business, we have built strong relationships with a trusted group of consultants and contractors. Our projects range from developer housing to bespoke new build homes to extensions and alterations of existing homes.
We are a creative team with a shared passion for solving everyday challenges. Logic, order and beautiful moments in our every day bring joy, calm and inspiration. We don’t resign ourselves to living in spaces that frustrate us and you shouldn’t either. The gestures may be grand, but they don’t have to be. Whatever the scale, they do need to be well thought through. We help you think things through and identify smart fixes for your everyday living.
We try to keep the design process simple. You share your lifestyle, challenges, ideas, priorities and dreams. We listen, guide, inspire, explore and collaborate. Together, we can create your dream home.
We are an approachable group of architects and designers. We work hard, but respect the work life balance. We collaborate with each other, with our clients, with consultants and builders. We are honest and do our best to solve challenges everyday.
Richard founded archangels ARCHITECTS in 2009 and leads the studio with a clear vision. A systematic and organised thinker, he is able to assess the challenge at hand and illustrate the best way forward in a no-nonsense manner. Richard approaches opportunities creatively and analytically and, above all, he is concerned with what is ‘right’ for you.
Richard’s interest in design and low energy building led him to substantially renovate his own home. While creating a more contemporary home aesthetically, he also upgraded the thermal envelope, installed solar panels and added a home automation system. The result has improved his lifestyle and reduced household energy consumption significantly.
Richard is on the steering committee for The Green Register and Design Brighton. He also mentors Architecture students at the University of Brighton and for the RIBA South East Mentoring Scheme. When not hard at work, he enjoys cycling, travelling, live music and the arts.
Pete’s background in the construction sector brings a wealth of hands-on expertise to the studio. He is a steady hand in a busy work environment and is a dedicated supporter of the team. Weighing up all the relevant factors before reaching decisions, Pete is patient and flexible in his approach to work and people and seeks harmony in every design solution.
Pete built a studio in his back garden for the days when he works from home, finding a work life balance that works well for him. In his spare time, he enjoys cycling, walking and photography. Pete is also qualified Shamanic Practitioner and healer, father of three and loves connecting with the planet and being in nature.
Tom is the studio’s first employee. A conscientious listener, Tom is both reflective and pragmatic in his approach. Driven by his talents and honest values, his straightforward style places a premium on doing everything correctly. Tom’s technical mind is concerned with how things work and how they might be improved.
Tom’s training in principles of permaculture influences his sustainable approach to living as well as often inspiring his thought process in design. He is fascinated by both the simplicity and complexity of nature and is often found outdoors. This could be walking, cycling, participating in competitive sports, gardening or going to forest school with his young son.
Rachael brings a strong background in architecture and interior design to the studio. An open minded, curious and insightful nature enables her to bring excellent long-range vision to any design challenge. Rachael’s interest in how interior environments inform the way we live fuels her enthusiasm for exploring alternative ways of living, for instance co-operative housing.
Rachael has teamed up with Richard in her involvement with Design Brighton, where she contributes collaboratively with interactive design ideas. She is also a paper cutting artist, who can often be found in cafes, sketching, meditating, running or playing tennis when not involved in creative breakfast table conversations with her two children.
Hannah bolsters and promotes team spirit, within and outside of the office. She is a participative and involved team player who listens well to help you reach your goals. Hannah’s enthusiasm for the challenge at hand is infectious and she is always ready to jump between tasks and help out where needed. She enjoys brainstorming sessions, lively debate and close collaboration with others.
Outside of work, Hannah enjoys travelling and exploring Europe. She also enjoys running and has taken to running home from work. Currently, she is also planning the renovation to her recently purchased flat.

We are proud to be the first Business Ambassador to Sussex Nightstop in 2019. Sussex Nightstop is a Brighton based charity who support homeless people aged 16-25. Nightstop's offer is very simple but very real. They recruit volunteers, who after training open up their spare room to provide a safe, warm bed and a hot meal, one night at a time. They do it night-by-night because their volunteers typically have limited availability but also because they need the young person to be active in the process of finding a solution to their homelessness and re-engaging for the next nights’ accommodation is a good way of fostering this.
Here at archangels architects, in 2019, we are celebrating our 10th year of operations and are proud to support this community response to homelessness. Confronted with the amount of homelessness on our streets it is often hard to know what the right thing to do is. For us, Nightstop is a solution we can have confidence in and be proud of supporting.
One initiative we have implemented is to ask all potential clients who have our free consultation carried out by one of the team, is to donate a suggested sum of £25 directly to Nightstop, this can be done very simply by following this link https://localgiving.org/charity/sussexnightstop/
