reinventing a childhood home

Creating your dream home is a subjective undertaking. Some people might build a brand new house to make it entirely their own. Others would prefer to rethink a home they already live in. Or even that they used to live in, as the case may be. This young family came to us with a home that one of them had lived in as a child. The home retained happy memories, so when it came on the market, they jumped at the chance to reinvent the space.

The challenge was to sensitively incorporate clutter-free, bright and functional living space; they had a growing family of their own now. By creating a simple side extension, we were able to replace the dark and cramped kitchen with a light-filled and spacious open plan kitchen/dining/living area.

A large frameless skylight floods the space with light and captures the ever-changing skies. Bold blue bespoke kitchen cabinets with recessed finger-pulls create a highly functional and playful kitchen. Glass pendants add sparkle, while open shelving displays favourite bowls and cookbooks. A hidden bar encourages spur of the moment hosting. Large, contemporary sliding doors connect the interior with the sleek and low-maintenance porcelain tile terrace.

Together, we reinvented this home to create a place where family life unfolds with ease. We can’t wait to see what the next generation might do with it.
